Smile every time you sit down and enjoy your hand-crafted table centre celebrating the new beginnings of Spring. Sculpt and pain a beautiful clay vase, fill it with natrual rustic twigs, which we will decorate with our own hand-crafted fabric binca eggs. Young Artists will be guided through running, back and cross stitch (using plastic needles) to decorate their own hanging eggs with sewn details such as birds, bunnies and carrots. We will make further sparkling decorations from cardboard, wool, paint, dried flowers and glitter.

Craft a Vibrant Spring Table Centre (5-11)

Roundabout has been running at the
Conservatoire for over 30 years! Since
1992 we have been introducing children
aged 5–7 to music through this exciting,
informative and inclusive year-long course.
Are you thinking of signing up? Perhaps

then, this two-day taster is perfect for you!
Join us for two mornings to explore all of
the many instruments that learners get
to explore in their year of Roundabout;
strings, flute, piano, brass, percussion
and guitar. You’ll get time with each
instrument, and even try playing in our
multi-instrumental chamber groups.

Roundabout Taster – 2-day course

Let's make some musical instruments in 2D and 3D! We'll use collage to create pictures of musical instruments, based on the works of Braque and Picasso. Young Artists will use rubbings, chalks and oil pastels to create and explore textures.

Music Through Art (4-7)

We've got something new for you! Building on our unique position as a specialist across the creative arts, we are blending together art and music in a uniquely Conservatoire way! You will enjoy a specially devised complementary art and music class. In music we will expand our aural, teamwork and dexterous skills to explore rhythm, ensemble playing and movement as we move and play together. In the art class we will craft stunning flowers and parade hats which we will wear when we come together to march and make music!

Art and Music Workshop - Join the Spring Festival (3-5)

The songbirds are busy laying their eggs. Let's help by providing their meals in a stunning hand-crafted bird feeder. Using recycled tetrapak as a base. Young Artists will use their painting skills to transform it into their own individual garden restaurant! We will provide non-nut and seed based bird food to fill it and sculpt and paint our own little clay birds to keep watch!

Make a Beautiful Songbird and Feeder (5-11)

Mardi Gras begins Lent and the Easter holiday. Young Artists will turn fashion designers, milliners (and models) as they design and create their own Mardi Gras headdresses and Easter bonnets. They will learn how to draw a pattern and construct it from card and fabric. Paint, gold leaf, feathers, flowers and quirky decorations - make yours as flamboyant and joyful as possible!

Happy Headwear (8-15)

Ukulele is a fantastic first instrument and a wonderful stepping stone to other string instruments. Our friendly tutors will help you play your first song, have fun making music with others and learn skills in rhythm, pitch and notation as part of fun musical games! All levels are welcome. Bring your own instrument or borrow ours!

Uke & You! (3-5)

Art and Music Workshop - What will Hatch? (3-5)

This spring we will explore the life cycle of the caterpillar and its transformation into a butterfly. Using collage and making a puppet, finishing off with a beautiful butterfly kite.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar (4-7)

Responding imaginatively to poems is a fantastic inspiration to begin creating art. We will reflect on the evocative poem, 'My Brain' written by Annabel Laurance, (aged 10!) and using this inspiration; do some imaginative sketching and make a storyboard. We will then prepare our animation setup with a cardboard box 'rostrum' and shapes cut out from paper. Using our phones and tablets, we will capture each frame of the animation with the help of the tutors. At the end, we will export our finished videos and invite our adults to join us in watching them on the big screen. Young Artists will also learn more about the 12 Principles of Animation, and use the first principle as a warm up, with the right level of fun, freedom and technical challenge.

Please note: A fully charged smartphone or tablet with the Stop Motion Studio app installed (free for iOS and Android) is required for this class.

Making the Invisible Visible with Animation (5-8)

Celebrate spring, renewal and imagination in this hands-on paper art workshop exploring form, colour and creative construction.

Inspired by origami and paper sculpture, Young Artists will build their own paper environments inspired by themes of Easter, nature and new beginnings. Through folding, cutting, layering and simple structural techniques, students will explore how paper can transform from a flat surface into expressive three-dimensional forms.

Participants will create a central sculptural (origami) paper figure and design a surrounding habitat using collage and relief techniques. The workshop combines structure with creative freedom, encouraging visual thinking, spatial awareness and imaginative storytelling.

For this age group students will be encouraged to develop more complex forms, layered compositions and ambitions structural ideas.

Spring Paper Worlds - Sculpting Stories of Renewal (8-12)

Making the Invisible Visible with Animation (8-12)

Celebrate spring, renewal and imagination in this hands-on paper art workshop exploring form, colour and creative construction.

Inspired by origami and paper sculpture, Young Artists will build their own paper environments inspired by themes of Easter, nature and new beginnings. Through folding, cutting, layering and simple structural techniques, students will explore how paper can transform from a flat surface into expressive three-dimensional forms.

Participants will create a central sculptural (origami) paper figure and design a surrounding habitat using collage and relief techniques. The workshop combines structure with creative freedom, encouraging visual thinking, spatial awareness and imaginative storytelling.

For this age group projects will focus on accessible folding and guided construction with supportive pacing.

Spring Paper Worlds Sculpting Stories of Renewal (5-8)

Baby lambs are born around this time. We will make stencils of sheep and paint textured grass around them to show how to mask areas in art. Big ones, little ones, black sheep and white sheep.

Baby Lambs and Bouncing Bunnies (3-5)

Young Artists can learn practical and creative skills and come home with a covetable item! Design and decorate your own cushion designs with bunnies, chicks and flowers using fabric markers and paint, as well as learning appliqué to sew fabric and beads/ buttons for extra pizazz (using plastic needles).

Young artists will be able to direct the tutor in sewing the fabric pieces together on a sewing machine at the end and stuff them to bring them to life!

Colourful Cushions (5-11)

The world of the minibeast is hidden from us most of the time. As they hatch out of eggs in the warmer weather, we can explore these fascinating creatures.

It's a Bug's Life (3-5)

Inspired by the bold and colourful work of the artist Tal R, we will use the process of monoprinting to create beautiful pictures inspired by his paintings and drawings. Using various printing techniques, we will learn new processes and witness the playful and surprising effects printmaking can offer! Learn to be bold with your drawings, filling the spaces of the paper with the shapes and colours of spring.
