Description

A brand new musical version of the much loved fairy tale The Little Mermaid.

All her life The Little Mermaid has dreamt of visiting the surface and seeing what the Dryland world has to offer. With the help of her friend, Sylvester the Seahorse, and the magical powers of her step-mother Auntie Anemone, perhaps that day is coming sooner than she thought. But what wonders lie far above the ocean depths? And is it really her destiny to become human?

Our next family show for 2024 – and our 30th original show for families since 2017 – features all the usual Spontaneous magic and lots of surprises. This show will whisk you off to an exotic Caribbean setting, with a script co-written by Blue Mountain Theatre Co’s Lavern Archer, and original songs by Alessia Marcovecchio, Tom Nugent and performer Marlon-Oliver Harris. With fabulous costumes as usual by Jackie Poulett, special UV lighting effects, and amazing scenic design, this highly entertaining show is not to be missed!

Joining Spontaneous regulars Marlon-Oliver Harris (as Sylvester the Seahorse & DJ Dishy/Max the Fisherman) and Poppy Pickles as Auntie Anemone, we are delighted to welcome Taz Munyaneza making her Spontaneous debut as The Little Mermaid herself. With special guest vocal performances by Lavern Archer and Hjalmar Nordén as Hans Christian Anderesen, you’re in for a real treat!

What families are saying

Michael James
December 2018

Firstly my only complaint (if I can call it that) was that the play is short, only 30 mins. But, considering that it was free and the amount of performances that were churned out in the day I haven't taken a star away and still given it full marks. Short it may be but it's packed with fun, great songs and good performances, the kids and my daughter loved it and were some cleverly veiled and delivered jokes for the adults. I really didn't expect anything as it was a free play. There are elements of " the play that goes wrong" in it and the cast seemed liked they were having a great time so it made it even more enjoyable. I'll definitely be going to see anything that they do in future and look forward to the next performance that was mentioned coming next year. I'll be buying my ticket as soon as they are out.
