The Oxford & Cambridge Singing School has not run any activities for over two months. We’re trying to get an up-to-date schedule.
Anna Lapwood is the Director of Music at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where she conducts the choir, trains the organists, and oversees college music. Anna followed 6 years study at the Junior Royal Academy of Music with 3 years as Organ Scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford, from where she graduated with a First Class degree. Her role at Magdalen required her to accompany the Chapel Choir every day, sharing the eight weekly services with the Assistant Organist. She was also the first female to have been awarded this prestigious organ scholarship in the College’s 560-year tradition.
Dr Edward Wickham is a leading expert in vocal pedagogy, and is much sought-after internationally as a coach for children’s, student and adult choirs. He has been Director and Fellow in Music at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge since 2003, an Affiliate Lecturer at the Faculty of Music and Course Principle of the MMus (Master's programme) in Choral Studies at the University of Cambridge. In 2008 Dr Wickham established a children’s Girls’ Choir at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. This was the first college-based choir in the UK and has subsequently provided a model for other such choirs.
Simon Jackson is Director of Music at Peterhouse College, Cambridge, which he combines with his work as an Organist and Conductor at Little St Mary’s, Cambridge. Simon began his musical training as a Chorister at York Minster and moved to Cambridge in 2002 to study at Jesus College, where he was awarded a Choral Scholarship. After his undergraduate studies, he spent a year in Peterborough, singing as a lay clerk, before returning to Cambridge to continue his academic studies.
Katy Silverman is a professional pianist and organist. Whilst at Oxford, Katy conducted and accompanied the Chapel Choir as Organ Scholar, featuring on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Sunday Worship’ and playing in various cathedrals including St Paul’s, Gloucester and St Alban’s. She holds the Associateship diploma of the Royal College of Organists. Katy works freelance teaching a range of piano and organ students, leading a school choir, and performing as a recitalist and accompanist. In September 2016 she joined the Royal College of Music to study for a Masters in Performance.
Former Organ Scholar of Worcester College, Oxford, (2007–2010), Thomas then spent a year as the Organ Scholar of Canterbury Cathedral before moving to study at the Royal College of Music, simultaneously holding the position of organ Scholar of St. Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge. Thomas has previously studied the organ with Stephen Farr and William Whitehead and conducting with Paul Brough. Thomas was Assistant Organist and Tutor to the Choristers at Magdalen College, Oxford from 2012 before returnining to Worcester College as their Director of Music.
