Both Marthe Armitage and Collier Campbell, who have printed textile exhibitions at Pittshanger and the Fashion & Textile Museum respectively, use plants in their work. With reference to them and other textile artists, we will explore hot and cold colours and use paint, print and recycling materials to create our own textiles.

Inspired by the amazing art of by Giuseppe Arcimboldo, we will paint still life - fruits, vegetables, dry wheat and flowers and create a collage on A3 paper using our own faces as an outline.

Faith Ringgold was an African American artist with a passion for folklore, colour and women's stories. We will make our own vibrant and eye-catching patchwork collages, inspired by her children's books, quilts and paintings.

Fabulous Frida Kahlo (3-5 yrs)

Ever wanted to learn more about composition and songwriting? This inclusive class is accessible for both musicians and non-musicians to learn about composition: working together to compose, arrange and write lyrics for our own original tune.

Working with a professional musician, band player and educator, musicians and lyricists will have a lovely opportunity to work and play together, covering musicianship, a little theory, how to groove together and respond and play to support the overall sound as opposed to isolated, solo practice. Taking inspiration from whatever is happening in the community, the scope and stories of myths and legends, or whatever inspires us, the aim will be to "learn to create the music YOU love". If you play an instrument please bring it with you on the day!

Songwriting & Playing Together

Inspired by Ivonne Coomber, we will all paint a beautiful summer field with wild flowers, using an amazing (and very fun!) technique "splatting"!

Ukulele is a fantastic first instrument and a wonderful stepping stone to other string instruments. Our friendly tutors will help you play your first song, have fun making music with others and learn skills in rhythm, pitch and notation as part of fun musical games! All levels are welcome. Bring your own instrument or borrow ours!

Have you seen the whale sculpture made of plastic litter at Canary Wharf? We will make a more optimistic 3D piece, crafted of clay and decorated. Why not make a little snail to keep him company, as told in Julia Donaldson's 'The Snail and the Whale'?

Where Are The Whales? (5-11 yrs)

Our year-long Play programme is a fantastic opportunity to learn an instrument in supportive small groups following our tailored curriculum. Perfect for those who have just completed Roundabout, or complete musical beginners who are just interested in finding out and trying out, these fun one day courses will give you a little taster of each instrument. Participants will come away with new skills, have fun and perhaps select the instrument they would like to continue on Play! 

Led by your expert tutor, each day will be composed of musical exercises and games, some music theory, and LOTS of playing! You will learn the basics of the piano perfectly setting you up for a year of further learning on our Play! course or individual tuition. All instruments will be provided.

Taking inspiration from the Bauhaus's bold colours and geometric shapes, we will design dance costumes and backdrops ready for performance.

Bright Bauhaus Ballet (5-11 yrs)

Impressionist artists like Money and Cassatt were radicals in their time but their work is still popular today.

We'll spend the morning exploring different mediums and drawing techniques influenced by them impressionist movement and create our own masterpieces. Then in the afternoon we'll transform our artworks into a mono painting and explore printmaking as an art form.

Impressed by the Impressionists? (5-11 yrs)

Ever wanted to create a self portrait but thought "I can't do that"? Well, we’re here to tell you yes you can, with guaranteed success!

Introducing the unique method of the Flip Portrait, taught by life drawing and portrait specialist Jonathan Huxley. Using clever methods he will teach you how to conjure up magical self-portraits using acetate, photographs, Sharpies, and tissue paper. You’ll create your portraits with beautiful red carpet backgrounds, imagining yourself as a star of the silver screen! Everyone will go home with a unique finished work with your own lovely face at the centre. Choose to depict yourself, your children, or all of your together!

Please note that adults and children each need a ticket. One adult can accompany two under 10s (and more children if they are over 10)

Family Flip Portraits - Family Class (5+)

Step into a world of folklore and wildlife in this hands on workshop! Inspired by legendary birds, mysterious cats, swift hares, and powerful bears from stories around the world, children will design and sculpt their own creature using foam craft techniques. Participants will build the body structure from foam before covering it with plaster and sand to create rich textures inspired by fur, feathers, and woodland surfaces. Along the way, they’ll explore how animals appear in traditional tales, symbols, and folklore across different cultures. Perfect for curious makers and young storytellers, this workshop combines sculpture, imagination, and tactile making in a fun and creative environment.

Animals in Folklore - A Sculpture Workshop (5-11 yrs)

Work with a (clothed) model to understand more about this vital painterly skill. Sketch a range of short and longer poses with a skilled expert. A chance to try something rarely available at school.

Clothed Life Drawing (8-14 yrs) - Specialist Focus

Join two West End actors for a three-day musical theatre workshop and learn songs and scenes from top West End and Broadway shows! You’ll work with Connor and Mary-Jean, who’ve performed in hits like Heathers the Musical and most recently Les Misérables, where they’ve both recently finished the World Tour.

By the end, you’ll have improved your singing technique, learned new improvisation and acting skills and created your own short musical. Be prepared to act, sing and dance your heart out but most importantly to have fun!

Make A Musical (8-14 yrs)

Design and make your very own puppet to perform in a show! Children will work in small groups, each group given a scene to act out. With each child choosing their part, they will interpret, design and make their character as a puppet, using a variety of materials. At the end, we'll invite parents and carers in to watch the drama unfold!

Travel to a Treasure Island, but look out for pirates! Craft a pirate hat, overflowing treasure chest, kaleidoscope and a treasure map.

Discover the fascinating rural tradition of Well Dressing in this creative children’s workshop inspired by the ancient custom of decorating wells and water sources with beautiful natural artworks. Young participants will explore the history and symbolism behind this unique ritual before designing and creating their own nature-inspired mosaic using petals, leaves, seeds, flowers, and other natural materials.We will also create a portrait of the ‘Green Man’ one of Englands most ancient and enduring figures. Often depicted as a human face woven from lush, green foliage, we will be painting ours onto canvas. Through hands-on making, children will experiment with pattern, colour, texture, and composition while learning about seasonal celebrations, community traditions, and the importance of water in our lives. This calming and imaginative workshop encourages creativity, observation, and a deeper connection with the natural world.

Well Dressing and the Green Man (5-11 yrs)

The Grimms' Fairy Tales gathers timeless folk stories - from daring quests and enchanted animals to cursed royals and clever peasants - all collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, with pictures by some of the most famous illustrators such as Rackham and Crane. In these brisk, vivid tales, the everyday collides with the magical, and wit or courage often decides a character’s fate.

We will use printmaking to illustrate and then bind a book of our own version of the stories and print one of our designs onto a T-shirt - will you be a witch, a beast or a princess?

Grimms' Fairy Tales (5-11 yrs)

Do you want to be a mermaid or merman and live under the sea? Inspired by the Disney classic, calypso and classic sea shanties, we will make music, puppets and beautiful art creating the moving effects of water. This class blends together art and music in a uniquely Conservatoire way, taught by specialists in both practices.

Art and Music Workshop - The Little Mermaid and Merman

A relaxed, multi-generational session where participants create individual pieces using simple origami, collage and card-making within a shared theme. These family sessions work particularly well as a collaborative experience between adults and children. 

Please note that each adult and each child needs their own ticket. One adult can accompany two under 10s (and more children if they are over 10).
