Think like a scientist with musical instruments: how does music work?
This session aims to develop curiosity and build confidence in studying physics with a hands-on investigation into how musical instruments really work.
With experiments and demonstrations, the session aims to create a foundational understanding of sound waves and introduce how day-to-day phenomena can be explained with science.
The session will include demonstrations using musical instruments and explore examples from the collection at St Cecilia's Hall to discover how science and music are connected.
4th year astrophysics student, Michelle Campbell, will lead the session as part of her Outreach and Engagement course at the University of Edinburgh. By combining her passions for both music and physics, she hopes to inspire a new appreciation for science as well as having fun with musical instruments.
This session is suitable for children aged 7 - 11 years old (P3 - P7). Parents are requested to stay with their children, we hope it will be fun for the whole family! Please feel free to contact us on [email protected] or [email protected] with any access requirements.
