Song Box provides much loved, local, independent musical playgroups in hired halls and our new "4G" sessions bringing together young families and residents in care homes. Mon-Fri; all around York; for babies, toddlers and talkers all together; with Mums, Dads and carers; mixed age sessions; fixed family fee (NOT per child); half price places on request to families with a low household income; inclusive and accessible; welcoming everyone. Carolyn is a qualified teacher and has been a Song Box mum for 6 years. Carolyn has particular interests in dance, arts, crafts, storytelling and multiculturalism. She became a session leader in 2009.
Kerry Merriam is a qualified teacher, plays piano and flute, leads adult choirs and is a member of the Fine Companions folk band. Kerry has been a Song Box mum with both her daughters, becoming a session leader in 2007.
Sarah joined Song Box in 2001 as a session leader bringing wide experience having been a nursery manager, childminder and playgroup helper. Her love of music, amateur dramatics and craft skills add to Song Box’s pool of creativity. Sarah leads sessions and is also our part- time administrator.
Thea Jacob created SONG BOX as an independent venture in 1994. Song Box now provides over 20 creative musical play sessions each week, at numerous venues around York. Thea manages Song Box, leads sessions and provides outreach and cultural inclusion sessions with many partner organisations. Thea is a member of Early Arts, Sound Sense, York's Cultural Education Partnership, the Dementia Action Alliance and is active in York's multicultural networks. Thea is proud to work alongside her long standing team of experienced session leaders, who she has recruited, trained and manages.
