Take part in a butterfly survey on a walk with Gibside rangers.

Join our Gibside rangers for a 2 mile walk through the grounds and help to complete a butterfly survey. Record butterfly species you see along the way and learn about the habitats they live in. This walk will take you to lesser-seen parts of Gibside, including hidden ponds where you may spot other wildlife, including dragonflies and birds.

This event is aimed at adults, although interested older children are welcome. Free, booking required.

Please note, the event may need be cancelled for bad weather. Please check your emails on the day before heading to Gibside.

Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. This year it runs from Saturday 8 June to Sunday 16 June, and the theme is swaps.

This event is aimed at adults and older children.

Meet in the Walled Garden for the start of the walk.

Please wear waterproof footwear and dress for the weather. Ensure that your arms and legs are covered.

The walk will take approximately 2 hours, but participants are free to leave early. The walk will feature uneven, mixed terrain so is not suitable for wheelchair users. Wheelchair users may wish to join for the first 15 minutes, where the route covers more even terrain.

Dive into the history of Gibside and take a walk with a Guided Walk volunteer around the 18th century landscape garden.

Drop in to meet volunteers from Gibside Community Farm and learn about sustainable, organic farming.

Drop in to learn more about growing your own food and plant seeds to grow a salad at home.
