A Summer Of Play At Charlecote Park

Now more than ever, photography has the power to draw attention to the challenges facing the natural world and our planet.

The photographers in this exhibition are showing a compelling story about the environment, about nature, about people, forests, the landscape and the varied impacts of climate change.

Established in 2018 by Forestry England, the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) and Parker Harris, Earth Photo is a world-leading international programme dedicated to engaging with still and moving image makers. Its main objective is to reveal the narratives behind the pictures, encouraging conversations about our world, its inhabitants, environments, and the changing climate.

Take a magical journey through the grounds and gardens at Croft and discover the whimsical woodland creatures and features as you explore.

This trail will be running every day of the summer holidays, from 20 July to 1 September. Trail packs cost £3 and include an activity sheet, colouring pencils, and a prize.

Summer of Play is returning to Belton, bigger and better than ever before! Summer of play is sponsored by Starling Bank.

Discover Belton’s Avenue of Adventure this summer on the East Lawn and set off on a journey to explore some of the countries the Brownlow’s visited. Enjoy playful and interactive activities, from designing your own Chinese Wallpaper and competing in a hobby-horse race, to dressing up and strutting your stuff on a catwalk.

Offering a calm space, head inside our under-the-sea inspired sensory tent in the garden to enjoy some sensory play.

We’re bringing the seaside to the Estate Yard, with ‘Belton-on-Sea’, next to the ice-cream parlour! After building sandcastles, head to the work zone to build miniature versions of the mansion with ‘Building Belton’.

That's not all - Inspire+ will be returning on Fridays throughout the school holidays to run sport sessions on the oval. There will also be a programme of crafts, yoga, Belton Boogie, and pop-up sessions held by our knowledgeable garden, ranger, and house teams.

We’ll be releasing a calendar in July to help you see what’s running when! Keep an eye on our social media for more details to be released throughout the run-up.

Join in a Summer of Play at Anglesey Abbey, sponsored by Starling Bank this summer holiday. Bursting with energy, we have an activity-packed day suitable for the whole family.

Join us for a boogie in the Disco Den, challenge your friends to a race or a game of badminton, get your creativity flowing with craft days, story times and more! We will have five creative and interactive play zones around the gardens as well as trundle truck hire for 2-to-4-year olds. These zones with multiple activities will be available to enjoy every day in the gardens from 20 June to 1 September. There's plenty to keep you busy and come back for more throughout the summer holidays.

Summer Of Play: Outdoor Games At Staunton Harold

Come and grab a sport kit and continue the tradition of games at Knole this summer. Take your pick from cricket, boules or croquet. If there's a bit of a breeze then we have kites for you to borrow. Or why not become a summer explorer and pick up an adventure pack? You can use it to explore the parkland, find mini-beasts and see which birds you can spot around Knole.

Games, kites and packs are available to borrow from the Visitor Centre (subject to availability). They are free to borrow. Normal admission to Knole applies. Please pre-book at least an Outdoor and Tower ticket per person. Car parking is included in all admission tickets.

There are seven activities to explore around the estate. Follow the signs and map to find each one.

Summer Of Fun At Lytes Cary Manor

Discover over 60 original illustrations in our family-friendly exhibition, including favourite stories and characters such as Mr Gumpy, Avocado Baby, and Oi! Get Off Our Train!

There are comfy reading zones for kids to snuggle into with a book, colourful blown-up scenes for family photos, and dressing up inspiration. Look out for the life-size ‘magic’ bed that transports young imaginations to far away worlds, inspired by Burningham’s classic story The Magic Bed.

Sketches and personal items, including the artist’s paint palette, reveal how Burningham created his much-loved stories.

Outside, an energetic activity trail weaves through Mottisfont’s spacious gardens, introducing families to more characters, with games and challenges to complete. £3 per trail.

Art gallery open 11am-4.30pm daily, gardens open 10am-5pm daily. Last entry into the property, house and gallery is 30 minutes before closing.

Property admission applies (free entry for National Trust members, Art Fund members and under 5s).

There's no need to book, but we may get very busy, particularly on weekends. We open at 10am, and mornings tend to be busier than afternoons - most of our visitors arrive before 2pm, which can cause congestion in the car park. If you have the flexibility, a weekday visit is generally quieter than a weekend, even during school holidays. If you can only visit over the weekend, Saturdays are usually less busy than Sundays.

John Burningham's Bedtime Stories: Exhibition And Activity Trail

The visitors will start their journey by entering through a Fantasy Castle Archway, before they step into a large castle made out of straw. Inside the castle they can find a variety of play items suitable for creative, active, and performance activities. Following on from this, they can find a maze with a podium and additional play equipment.

Booking is not required and the games are free.

The Olympic-themed Dyrham decathlon will take place on the lawn by the house and includes throwing a foam javelin, target practice with bean bags, weaving in and out of the slalom, jumping hurdles, long jump, balance beams, hop scotch and stepping stones. The question is, can you complete each of the 10 challenges during your visit?

If you fancy something more creative, head along each Wednesday where you can grab a pencil, paper and a clipboard and wander round the lovely garden doing some sketches. Budding artists can add colour with a selection of water colour paint, pastels or pencil crayons kept in the gazebo at the end of the Avenue. On other days, paper and pencils will be available for visitors.

After all that exertion, why not enjoy an ice cream at Old Lodge in the parkland or relax at a shady picnic spot in the garden? Put on your sun hat and come and make the most of being outdoors this summer.

Summer Of Play At Dyrham Park

Make sure you're all warmed up and ready for action. On hot days, it's a good idea to pack a bottle of water and sun cream to ensure all athletes are on top form.

Summer Games At The Vyne

Step back in time with Summer of Play at Sizergh.

Inspired by archival footage from the family archive, Summer of Play at Sizergh will transport you back in time.

In the 1930s, the Strickland family used the Dutch Garden and South Lawn to spend time together. Scan the QR code to see footage of games in the garden and a garden party.

Choose a hat and make your way up the steps, just like the guests arriving at Sir Gerald’s garden party, or try your hand at some skipping games like the ones the Strickland children enjoyed.

Further afield, walk to the bird hide to see what’s visiting the wetland, or discover which special plants are growing on Sizergh Fell.

You can also trace the history of Sizergh by following the scallop trail through the house.

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

Summer of Play

Delve into the Townend archive collection through these fascinating personal letters.

Explore snippets of Ben Browne’s life in the 1700’s, following his relocation from the Lake District to London, captured in letters sent to his father ‘Old Ben’ over a 20-year period.

From the excitement of moving to the fast-paced big city, to concerns about his unfashionable clothes and the cost of living, to missing his mother’s cooking, the notes written by ‘Young Ben’ describe the experiences of a young person moving away from home to make their own way in the world.

This rare series of letters offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives and social position of an ordinary farming family, the Brownes, who lived at Townend in Troutbeck Valley for more than 400 years. See the original volume of letters on display alongside the original belongings of the family inside this typical Lake District slate-and-stone farmhouse.

The exhibition is included with standard admission. Free bookable tours, available from 3pm daily, can be booked in advance and include the display.

Coming to the Fox Talbot Museum on June 29, a diverse selection of contemporary photographs from across the globe.

For the past 170 years, the RPS's International Photography Exhibition has reflected how people see and think about things. The artworks selected for the Fox Talbot Museum exhibit a wide range of themes, subjects, techniques and aesthetics from 37 different photographers.

The International Photography Exhibition encourages photographers and image-makers of all ages, new, emerging and established photographers worldwide to submit work to the open call. For each edition of the exhibition the RPS invites a panel of leading voices in photography to bring an exciting mix of expertise to the final exhibition selection. The exhibition at the Fox Talbot Museum represents a selection from the last three years’ editions of RPS exhibitions.

Come along to Godolphin and take part in your very own summer of fun. This summer we are hosting the 'Godolphin Games', meaning everyday will be a sports day, with activities including archery, badminton, ring toss and crafts. There will many other fun filled activities going on such as hobby horses and tic-tac-toe for all the family to get involved with.

Archery will take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer holidays, from 10.30am-4pm.
