We promote education and performance programmes in African drumming, Mandinka music, African dance, storytelling, poetry, drama, mask making and printmaking. Our philosophy is to share the joy of participating in African art forms with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Mbilla Arts CIC has not run any activities for over two months. We’re trying to get an up-to-date schedule.
Chantelle has been a practitioner of West African dance since 1996. In 1998 Chantelle travelled to Guinea in West Africa with Epizo Bangoura to follow a study course in Guinean dance for 2 months. Since then she has studied dance in Ivory Coast, Senegal and Mali as well as The Gambia where she spent 6 months studying djembe and sabar dance traditions and exploring the cultural contexts of the music and dance. Chantelle started teaching African dance in 2000 and teaches weekly classes in schools and community settings across East London.
Joshua Franklin is Artistic Director of New Movementz Dance Company which he formed in 2010. He has been a dancer for Unity UK and was one of The FI.ELD Ambassadors for East London Dance – a group of emerging young professional dancers on the path to becoming future innovators in dance. He believes dance is freedom and loves to create for himself and others. Josh has been teaching street dance sessions at Gnome House for the past 2 years. Nadia is passionate about sharing her love of drum and song with people of all ages and abilities. Her beautiful spirit and voice enhances any event and she is guaranteed to get you up on your feet dancing and singing.
Seneke is Mbilla Arts' lead musician and was a founding director of the company. He was born in The Gambia in West Africa and from an early age he demonstrated a talent for playing mbalax, the traditional music of the Wolof people of The Gambia and Senegal, which is played on sabar drums. After his arrival in the UK, Seneke began teaching and performing with Mbilla Arts in 2006 and now teaches weekly classes across East London.
