Judo is a sport of unarmed combat derived from ju-jitsu with striking and dangerous throws removed. Created as a physical, mental and moral pedagogy in Japan, in 1882, by Professor Jigoro Kano it is now an Olympic Sport and has been since 1964.
It involves two individuals who, by gripping the judo uniform, use the forces of balance, power, and movement to attempt to subdue the opponent. Whilst it is simple and basic, mastery of even the most basic of judo techniques often take considerable time, effort, and energy, involving rigorous physical and mental training.
