Description

Join us for a talk exploring the work and legacy of Battle Abbey and its estates in the Middle Ages.

The abbey – like all monasteries – was much more than a religious institution. It functioned as a large and diverse economic organisation. It was at the centre of a huge, flourishing network of trade and production.

Join us to hear about the abbey’s estates and all manner of goods it brought in from across the country and beyond.

The talk will take place in the fitting surroundings of the abbey’s Great Gatehouse, the ultimate expression of its power and wealth. This event has been graded as easy access as it takes place inside with chairs, however a couple of steps are required to enter and exit the venue inside the Great Gatehouse.
