The first excavations at Chesters took place in 1840, directed by John Clayton. What we know of Roman Cilurnum is almost completely down to Clayton's work, yet we can still re-interpret their findings. Join Collections Curator Dr Frances McIntosh in the museum to look at some of the key finds from his excavation, and how our interpretation of them may be different to that of the Victorian antiquarians.
