Description

Founded by Earl Richard of Cornwall, Hailes Abbey became one of the major pilgrimage destinations of Europe after a precious holy relic, a phial of Christ's blood, was installed in 1270.

Enjoy a guided tour around the now-ruinous abbey and take in the picturesque backdrop below the Cotswold scarp. Find out how, following the suppression of monasteries in 1539, the abbey buildings found a surprising new lease of life as a country house.

This event is graded as moderate access as it will involve a walking tour with limited places to rest and uneven terrain, including steps.
