See spectacular floral displays at Stonehenge this September as we travel back in time to the Victorian dahlia shows.

During the 1840s, Stonehenge hosted popular dahlia shows attracting crowds of thousands of people. The historic shows involved a variety of competitions, including the creation of sculptures made entirely from flowers and the cultivation of prize-winning dahlias.

Join us as we recreate this colourful part of the Stonehenge story. Discover expertly crafted floral sculptures and vote for your favourite, admire locally grown dahlias in our take on a traditional show. Plus, there will be opportunities to take a selfie amongst our dazzling floral displays.

The Grand Stonehenge Dahlia Show

Start the weekend energised with a spot of Community Yoga against the stunning backdrop of Marble Hill and it's surroundings! Community based event, meet on the Oval Lawn (Behind House towards River) at 8am.

Event is weather dependent.

Community Yoga

Gaze skywards in awe as a spectacular collection of birds take flight to soar and swoop above Framlingham Castle in this display of Gothic Falconry.

Join our time-travelling falconers as they display the tradition of hawking that have been passed down through centuries. Look to the skies above the grounds to see three flying displays throughout the day at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Please be aware that these timings are approximate.

Gothic Falconry At Framlingham Castle

A team of mathematicians has named Chester as the prettiest city in the world, narrowly beating Venice in Italy for the top spot. This tour will cover the wonderful eclectic architecture and the 2,000 years of history held within the city walls, but will also show you hidden secrets of the city such as medieval halls, Roman foundations and secrets hidden in small cafés or down stone-hewn cellars. Join guide John McFerran on a small-group exclusive tour to explore hidden secrets of the city of Chester.

This tour is graded as moderate access, as it is an outdoors walking tour for up to two hours with few places to stop and rest. The tour covers some steps onto the city walls, a lot of cobbled streets and some narrow, cramped spaces.

Enjoy the fresh air, pleasant surroundings, and community spirit with out regular Community Walk. The experience is led by our volunteers, and free to attend with no pre-booking requirement.

Community Walk At Marble Hill

London's blue-plaques scheme, founded in 1866, is believed to be the oldest of its kind in the world. Join historian Dr Susan Skedd on a guided walk around the streets of Holland Park and Notting Hill and discover where some of these places' notable former inhabitants lived and worked. Find out about the lives of an eclectic range of artists, writers, scientists and political figures who made this area their home, including the suffragette leaders Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst.

This event is graded as moderate access, as it is a walking tour on busy streets, covering 1.5-2 miles with few places to stop and sit down. There may be stairs and uneven terrain en route.

Join Stephen Farthing, this year's Artist in Residence at Kenwood House, to discover and explore the Art of Swagger.

Stephen will go in-depth about the exhibition on show, and you will have a chance to see his current work in progress inspired by his time at Kenwood.

This event is graded as moderate access as there will be a four-minute walk from the house to the dairy on undulating ground.

Murder Mystery At Apsley House

This October, step into the scene of England’s most famous battle. Witness warriors clash and mud fly as over 300 re-enactors bring the Battle of Hastings to life on the very spot where it was fought in 1066.

Take the day to explore all the action in the rival Saxon and Norman camps. See the chain mail and weaponry makers while they’re hard at work. And meet the falconers and their birds of prey alongside them. Weave your way through the tents where there’s food to prepare, logs to chop and clothes to mend. Come and see – and smell – what’s cooking.

Kids can take up arms and try their hand at archery or join in sword school. And don’t miss the dramatic retelling of the Bayeux Tapestry.

The Battle Of Hastings

Black African and Caribbean influences have been integral to the formation of England’s rich history. This often under-represented section of society can be traced back a lot further than one may think. Walk with Nick Collinson in the oldest part of London and discover stories of unparalleled injustice, impassioned abolitionists and the first recorded black person in England under the reign of the first Tudor monarch.

Brinkburn Priory Organ And Choir Concert

In 1984-85 miners across the country took part in industrial action to try and prevent the closures of mining pits deemed uneconomic by the government. Bolsover has a rich mining heritage in the town and many locals joined and took part in the action. 

  This exhibition offers a compelling insight into the experiences and voices of the brave men and women who stood up to defend their jobs and communities.

  Throughout the month, visitors can engage in a rich array of activities, including film screenings, thought-provoking talks, and in-depth lectures.

  The events will also feature performances of music and songs inspired by the strike, creating an immersive and educational experience that honors the spirit of solidarity and resilience.
