Half Term History Makers At Warkworth Castle

On this journey through time at Bolsover Castle, historian Ian Morgan will take you to the Victorian era and show you the hidden world of ‘The grandest parsonage in England’, with servants' stories from ‘below stairs’ to life amongst the wealthy.

This event is graded as moderate access as some parts of the tour may require climbing stairs.

Guided Tours Of Bolsover's Little Castle

Join us for a special opportunity to explore Thornton Abbey and learn about the site safety issues that have led to its closure, the conservation challenges we face, and our plans to make it safe for reopening.

Meeting Point: Car Park – English Heritage staff will meet you there to begin the tour.

Important Information:

Please wear sensible shoes for rough, uneven ground.

We will provide hard hats and high-visibility vests.

Tours will be led by English Heritage experts.

This is a unique chance to see the Abbey in its current state and hear first-hand about the efforts to protect and restore this historic site. Don't miss out!

Discover an intimate perspective on the history of Osborne through our winter guided tours of the house! 

Join us on selected days from 9 November through to 14 March this winter for an extraordinary journey through time as you step into the grandeur of Osborne, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's beloved royal residence.  

During these special guided tours, you'll have the unique opportunity to delve deep into the stories and secrets of Osborne’s royal household. Uncover the hidden stories of this magnificent estate and gain insights into the roles that were essential for its prosperity. Our knowledgeable staff members, wearing what Thomas Newell, a former footman, and Mrs. Smith, a former housekeeper would have worn whilst they were servants at Osborne, are ready answer any questions you may have. 

Access to the house will be exclusively through guided tours on these days. We highly recommend reserving your spot in advance to secure your preferred time slot, as capacities are limited.

Top Tips: 

Please select the correct number of tickets based on the size of your party. 

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time to allow time to get to the meeting point. 

If you choose not to select a specific tour time during booking, you'll be assigned to the next available tour upon arrival.

Please note that tours will not be available on our Festive Fun weekends in December, between Christmas Day and New Year, as well as during the February Half Term. The ground floor of the house will be open for free flow access during these dates.

Winter Guided Tours At Osborne

Join Dr James Dilley for a flint-knapping experience at Grime's Graves, the site of the country's only open flint mine.

Learn core and flake technology to make basic flake tools such as scrapers, piercers, saws and backed blades - tools that are found across prehistoric Britain - before moving onto more challenging areas such as bifacial flaking to make tools like axes. Then try out some other flint-knapping techniques such as bi-polar percussion and pressure flaking to have a go at making arrowheads!

This event is graded as moderate access as the site has uneven terrain with facilities located a short walk away down a slope.

Refreshments in the form of a light lunch will be provided but please feel free to bring any additional refreshments you would like with you.

Guided forest bathing walks are a great way to look after your physical and mental well-being. Scientific studies have shown that forest bathing can help reduce blood pressure, boost the immune system, improve concentration and support anxiety and depression.

During your guided forest bathing walk with Deep in Nature you will be led on a slow-paced and gentle walk through our woodland landscape and invited to try various activities designed to help relaxation and to boost your mental and physical health.

You will leave the walk with tips and activities to practice on your own.  No prior experience or fitness is necessary.  

Adult walks are open to those aged 16+. We regret that we cannot welcome dogs on the forest bathing walks except for assistance animals.  Please note that admission charges apply for non-members.
