Description

How did the Battle of Hastings become the most famous battle in English history?

This thought-provoking talk examines how the idea of ‘The Battle of Hastings’ was assembled from a succession of historical narratives and evolved over time.

Reviewing sources from 11th century chroniclers and 18th century novelists to 20th century pageants and modern re-enactments, discover how a single day in 1066 became so embedded in the national conscience. Questions and discussion are welcome and encouraged.

We'll be inside for the tour, but the discovery centre can be cold, so please wear suitable footwear and dress for the weather.

Bookings for this event open on this page on Monday 20 April.
