Starting at the spectacular Gothic ruined Abbey, we will head down the famous 199 steps into the picturesque town and harbour to discover all about the history, industry and characters hidden in the winding alleys that make this such a fascinating place. From Dracula to polar bears via Captain Cook and Alice in Wonderland, there are secrets to be discovered around every corner.

This tour is graded as challenging access, as it is a walking tour with steep terrain and few places to stop and sit down.

Halloween Half-Term At Carisbrooke Castle

Sarah the scarecrow has a problem. She has been guarding her pumpkin patch but fell asleep and all of her pumpkins have gone missing! Can you help her replace them by creating your own pumpkin collage?

Drop in anytime between 10am and 4pm for this free activity.

You can also take part in our Halloween themed treasure hunt, included in general admission fees.

Halloween Crafts At Lincoln Medieval Bishops' Palace

Join our Collections Curator Ellie Matthews for a exclusive tour of this Victorian mansion and discover the history and symbolism of the art in this fascinating collection.

This event is graded as moderate access as there is a short walk to the hosue from the car park and their may be some stairs along the route.

In 1984-85 miners across the country took part in industrial action to try and prevent the closures of mining pits deemed uneconomic by the government. Bolsover has a rich mining heritage in the town and many locals joined and took part in the action. 

  This exhibition offers a compelling insight into the experiences and voices of the brave men and women who stood up to defend their jobs and communities.

  Throughout the month, visitors can engage in a rich array of activities, including film screenings, thought-provoking talks, and in-depth lectures.

  The events will also feature performances of music and songs inspired by the strike, creating an immersive and educational experience that honors the spirit of solidarity and resilience.

Bolsover Exhibition:

Experience the story behind one of 18th century London’s most beautiful residences with a tour around Marble Hill house. Gain an appreciation for the life of the magnetic founder of Marble Hill, Henrietta Howard, and discover a special insight into these extraordinary premises.

House Highlight Tour

Playshapes is a unique, interactive art installation created by artist Pippa Hale where visitors can use their imaginations to create new structures and sculptures, and then climb and have fun on their own creations! At the beginning of each 45 minute play session, eight interactive cubes are set out in the library. They can be broken down into a mix of steps, triangles, prisms, and cylinders to rearrange and play on either alone or in groups.

At the end of the 45 minutes, parents/carers and children work together to reassemble the coloured cubes ready for the next experience.

Children of all ages are welcome, and grown-ups are encouraged to join in the fun too!

Sessions are available at half past the hour from 10.30. Each session costs £3.50 for members and £4 non-members, please book and pay for your time slot when you arrive at site. Non-members will also need to purchase a ticket for the Belsay Hall itself.

Playshapes At Belsay Hall

Join artist Laura Lee once again for a Clay Painting Session at Gainsborough Old Hall.

Held inside the Old Hall in our education space, this is a great opportunity to get hands on and have ago at this craft activity.

Those who made a clay pinch pot with us in August can come back and paint it (£3). Those who have not made a pinch pot will have the opportunity to paint a clay tile (£5).

Once painted. Laura will take all the pots and tiles away to be fired, and they will be returned to customers approximately 3 or 4 weeks later.

  Please wear clothes you do not mind getting messy. Children must be accompanied by adults even if adults are not making their own pot. If you are only wanting to accompany your child you do not need to book a ticket. Tickets for this activity are separate from entrance tickets to Gainsborough Old Hall.

Gainsborough Old Hall Clay Making Workshop

Enjoy the fresh air, pleasant surroundings, and community spirit with out regular Community Walk. The experience is led by our volunteers, and free to attend with no pre-booking requirement.

Community Walk At Marble Hill

Join our amazing volunteers for a fun, hands-on craft session where you’ll create your very own charm bag! Perfect for ages 6 and up, these hour-long workshops are held in the Education Space and promise a magical time for all.

Tickets are £3 per person. No entry to the Hall required—just come through the Education Room’s external door.

Create Your Own Charm Bag At Gainsborough Old Hall

Get ready for a spine-tingling experience as one of our Visitor Assistants leads you through the haunted halls of Gainsborough Old Hall. Discover eerie tales of ghostly sightings and unexplained encounters from visitors and staff over the years.

This is £1 in addition to your entry fee. Please meet in the Great Hall for your tour. Tours last approximately 45 minutes. Please be aware that the Hall closes at 5pm if you are booking the 4pm tour. 

Tours are about 45 minutes long, and we can hold a maximum of 15 people per tour.
