Half Term History Makers At Audley End

In this walk through trendy Shoreditch and its polar-opposite neighbour, the City of London, Nick Collinson puts forward the case for the Walbrook being one of the most important rivers in the world. Lost to us for over 500 years, its waters still flow beneath our feet. As we travel the route of its vanished valley, you will hear stories of Shakespeare, raving lunatics and an earthquake that shook London.

This tour is graded as moderate access, due to it being a walking tour covering 1.5-2 miles over busy and uneven streets, with few places to stop and rest. The nearest station is Shoreditch High Street, which has a small step and gap of 0-2 inches between the train and the platform. The station is suitable for most, including wheelchair users. Experience the beautiful music room at Kenwood House filled with melodies once again as Saraband weave together music and stories inspired by the villa and its artworks. Enjoy a 45-minute programme for and about 18th-century ladies, actresses, courtesans and milkmaids.

Saraband, who are supported by the Continuo Foundation, specialise in music that would have been played in 17th- and 18th-century homes, taverns and theatres, with programmes that are inspired by the wider cultural scene. They've played regularly at Kenwood as well as Apsley House, Chiswick House and Gardens, Foundling Museum and other grand salons and taverns in their quest for the perfect marriage of venue and music.

Recently, in collaboration with The Opera Company, Saraband have been exploring the music of the French Baroque and researching the opera and travelling-theatre scene of early 18th-century France. This has resulted in two innovative shows, Rameau’s Roots and Theatre of the Salon, both of which received 5* reviews in magazine Opera Now.

Painted Ladies Musical Experience
