Join Collections Curator Dr Frances McIntosh to find out why the furniture in the Duke's Rooms at Warkworth Castle is not what it seems. Sold to the 4th Duke of Northumberland in the 1840s as ancestral furniture, hundreds of years old, it was actually being made in a workshop in Uppermill, near Rochdale. George Shaw was a talented church architect, keen heraldry buff, and a con-man!

Get a chance to meet one of the Audley End horses in this intimate session in our Victorian stable yard. This session will include an introduction to safety around our horses on-site, an opportunity to meet them, hear what they spend their days doing, and learn about the care they need. While you will be able to say hi, not everyone will get a chance to groom one of the horses.

The access grade for this tour is moderate. It takes place outside a historic building and has uneven flooring in places. Please take note that this event takes place at a working stable and that every child must be accompanied by at least one adult. Everyone joining the experience must book a ticket. The imposing twin towers of the medieval church at Reculver dominate the skyline of Herne Bay, acting as a navigation marker for ships at sea. This was the site of one of the earliest Roman forts built against Saxon raids on the 'Saxon Shore'. It later became the site of an Anglo-Saxon monastery before becoming the parish church for Reculver. The tall towers were built in a remodelling of the church in the 12th century. Much of the site has been lost to coastal erosion, but alongside the twin towers are the ruined remains of the early Roman fort. The towers are open after an extensive conservation project, meet the team to learn more of the history of the site while exploring inside the towers.

The access grade for this event is moderate, and will involve walking over uneven terrain and a few steep staircases. We'll be outside for the tour, so please wear suitable footwear and dress for the weather.

Discover a little about Audley End during the Second World War when it was the Special Operations Executive's (SOE) ‘Special Training School 43’. Station 43 was used by the Polish army and it is an important site where we can remember the ‘Cichociemni’ – the Silent Unseen.

You will hear about the Special Operations Executive training, activities and the stories of some individuals stationed there.
