Description

The Chinese Moon Festival, or Mid-Autumn Festival, is one of the most cherished traditional festivals in Chinese culture, symbolizing family reunions, gratitude, and the appreciation of the full moon. The festival has been celebrated for over 3,000 years.

Join the Chinese Association of Southampton as they bring their celebrations to Stonehenge, featuring dance, music, dragon performances, Kung Fu, and Tai Chi.

This year’s celebration is especially significant as it coincides with an astronomical event called the major lunar standstill. During this phenomenon, the moon will rise and set at its furthest points along the horizon, making it a fitting backdrop for a festival dedicated to lunar lore. It is believed that at least one major standstill was marked during the early phase of Stonehenge.

Performers will be dressed in traditional Chinese costumes. The celebration promises to be a captivating fusion of mythology, culture and tradition.
