Spend a few hours with Sally, a trained textile conservator, and learn how best to care for your carpets, linens, clothes and other textiles.

With over 20 years' experience in preventive conservation, Sally can show you how to check for signs of moth and insect damage, store and roll textiles and clean and handle items to ensure they are well cared for. This two-hour session will involve looking at historic textiles in Audley End House plus a practical session looking at preventive care.

This event is graded as moderate/challanging access as there are numerous stairs to access various areas.

This event has moderate access. It will take place in a working warehouse and there is uneven ground, different gradients and steps. The tour is not recommended for people with limited mobility.

Community Yoga

Go deep underground at Dover Castle and discover the Dumpy level on a special guided tunnel tour.

In the early 1960s the government selected Dover Castle as one of 12 Regional Seats of Government, to be occupied in the event of nuclear war. The heart of this was in Dumpy level and the tour presents an ideal opportunity to view the tunnels as they were when the Government abandoned them in the late 1980s.

Please note the tour is not suitable for under 18s. The tunnels contain uneven surfaces and some trip hazards – please wear appropriate shoes.

During a fire evacuation or other emergency, the lift to Dumpy cannot be used. In this case, visitors would need to climb 80 steps unaided to leave the tunnels. Unfortunately, it is not possible to accept bookings from visitors unable to climb these 80 steps unaided.

The tour is not recommended for anyone with chronic asthma, serious respiratory problems or a fear of enclosed spaces. You will be asked to sign a form to accept these recommendations and restrictions before the tour.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the time of the tour. You will also need a valid Dover Castle ticket in order to join the tour.

Dumpy Level Tunnel Tour

Join Christina Pascoe, English Heritage's National Venue Hire Manager, for a peek behind the scenes at film projects at Eltham Palace. From The Crown to Wonka and Brideshead Revisited, learn why English Heritage allows these projects to take place, the challenges they pose and the measures taken to protect the building and its artefacts in order to allow our fantastic heritage to appear on screen.

This talk is graded as moderate access as it will require navigating stairs.

In the 20th century London became a fashion powerhouse, largely due to an influx of Jewish immigrants. In the East End, the story is one of new arrivals establishing new lives and building careers while making the most of the job opportunities on offer. We will cover sites of worship, markets, education and community buildings, as well as fashion production and retail.

Join us at Wrest Park for a day of Oriental art. Start the day with a guided tour of the Chinese Wallpaper Rooms by Properties Historian Andrew Hann and then learn and practise this delicate art under the tutelage of artist Alasdair Peebles.

All materials will be supplied and lunch is provided. No experience is needed, and attendees can take their creative efforts home with them.

This event is graded as easy access, although it does involve navigating some flights of stairs.

Join us for an exciting opportunity to discover Exeter's fascinating history. On this tour, you will hear stories from the city's past, from the 14th to the 17th centuries, uncovering tales of siege, plague and pestilence, as well as 'the house that moved'.

We will start with a tour of Exeter's Underground Passages and then stop for lunch at Eat On The Green. We will then continue on to a Red Coat tour around the city centre and Exeter's Historic Quayside. We will finish with an opportunity to explore the Custom House, where light refreshments will be served.

Please note that unfortunately the tour is not suitable for those with poor mobility due to the uneven terrain, narrow walkways and limited places to rest throughout the tour. The Passages are also constricted and low in places and are not suitable for those who suffer from claustrophobia. For this reason, this event is graded as challenging access.
