Arts & Crafts
I have been interested in the arty/creative world for as long as I can remember. My first inspiration into Art was my Year 7 Art Teacher. This led to me studying Art Textiles at GCSE in High School, A Level Fine Art in Sixth Form and a Foundation Diploma at Hereford College of Arts. In my own personal practice, I am interested in the fine art side where I particularly like to paint and draw. I am also interested in politics and the local community which lead me to become a Parish Councillor in the area of Hereford I live. I joined Eastnor Pottery as an apprentice in 2017.
Jon was born in 1969 and as a child loved drawing and messing about with clay in the garden. At the age of 15 he encountered the head of his local art-school and in a blinding revelation, realised that ‘art’ could be a job!. He studied in Swindon & then Bath, his experience culminating in a 1st class degree in ceramics and 3d design. Whilst at Art School he met his future wife and fellow potter Sarah Monk and in 1994 they moved to Herefordshire and founded Eastnor Pottery.
I am a designer-maker specializing in functional ceramics to fit comfortably in the home, particularly the kitchen. I make toast racks, knife rests, egg cups and bowls of all shapes and sizes. Jon and I founded Eastnor Pottery in 1994. Our studio is perfectly located on the beautiful Eastnor Castle country estate in Herefordshire. Whilst Jon does a lot of work in schools and the wider community, I oversee the activities at Eastnor Pottery, including our extremely popular drop-in sessions. I love it! A go on a Potter’s wheel is an unforgettable experience for children and adults alike.
