What families are saying

Paula Blanco
January 2020

We have now been to see this theatre company on several occasions, beginning with their rendition of one of my most beloved childhood stories, 'The Wind in the Willows', which was brilliantly executed. The props were detailed, the script exciting, the costumes were brilliantly designed and the actors captivating. They brought to life the timeless adventures of Toad, Badger, Ratty and Mole in a vivid and thrilling rollercoaster of a ride, using a creative mix of skilled puppetry, effortless humour, and an easy-to-follow script that is perfect for audiences of all ages. The cast are patient with the younger members of the audience, who sometimes get involved and are brilliant at impromptu interaction when the occasion calls for it. We have been watching their performances since my daughter was 3, she is now almost 5, and it has been very successful in instilling a love of theatre in her too. It means a lot to me as a mother to be able to pass down my love of literature and theatre to my daughter, and their production of a classic was perfect for this. I love that they hand out activity sheets at the end of the production so that the learning can continue at home. This is particularly useful when the play introduces an entirely new character, like their thoughtful interpretation of the life of Amelia Earhart. Parents will know her as a feminist hero, the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Their play, 'Amelia Earhart at the Edge of the Stars', used a medley of puppetry, props and period costumes to take the audience on an imaginative recreation of the epic journey that earned Amelia's place in the Feminist Hall of Fame. My daughter loved learning all about Amelia's admirable journey and hasn't stopped asking to go and see another play ever since. Our most recent treat, which is quite possibly our favourite yet, came just before Christmas, where we went to watch 'Twas the night before Christmas', a play inspired by the famous poem of the same name, which included a beautiful and evocative monologue of the original poem, a cheeky, witty, Christmas imp and as all great plays do, an emotional story of love overcoming, sibling rivalry, class differences and bullying. This was a brilliant Christmas treat, we invited my parents to come along to this one too which made for a great treat for the entire family and best of all this performance was for a charitable cause with all proceeds going to save a Church Hall. I cannot recommend this Theatre company enough, tickets are inexpensive and there is usually a chance of a meet and greet with the characters and puppets at the end which my daughter adores. I keep alerts on their Facebook page to notify me when they announce a new event so that I can book my tickets immediately! I cannot recommend them enough, you will not be disappointed!
