Waulking Songs with Joy Dunlop
Waulking was the end stage in homespun tweed production. A group of women and girls would rhythmically beat the cloth on a hard table, to shrink and soften it. Waulking songs would be sung throughout the process – with one woman singing the verses and the others joining in the choruses.
Joy Dunlop, Mod Gold Medallist and multi-prize winning Gaelic Singer, leads this interactive workshop.
There are another two Waulking Songs session on Sunday 26th January with Kaitlin Ross and Saturday 1st February with Catherine Tinney.
