Description

South Shields Museum & Art Gallery and Food Fair invite you to a late afternoon, early evening museum social where the conversation will be all things food.

We’ll be serving up free samosas and other South Asian tasters for a post-Eid after-school treat, stotties and pease pudding from Big River Bakery and cakes from Akins Family bakers. There will also be free hot drinks and refreshments. We'll have tours of our current exhibition Scran: A History of Food & Drink in South Tyneside with museum staff and you can learn about Roman food & drink and handle objects with museum archaeologists from Arbeia South Shields Roman Fort.

We'll also be joined by members of Hospitality & Hope and the South Tyneside Open Collective (STOC) for good food and you can unearth the life of the humble potato and help tackle food waste with Magic Hat Cafe.

South Shields Museum & Art Gallery will be collecting and sharing stories with people across South Tyneside as part of Scran Stories and Scran: A History of Food & Drink in South Tyneside which runs until January 2025. Scran Stories will trace the evolving story of Food and Drink in South Tyneside looking at both its history, heritage and our contemporary relationship with it.
