If your kids are into hockey, or just love sports and want to try something new, why not send them to a summer hockey camp? Here are five of the best summer hockey clubs for children in the UK.
Let's Play Hockey, run by Activate Camps, is a three-day camp which is suitable for beginners or those wanting to improve their hockey skills over the summer break. Small-sided games, skills circuits, and challenges help children develop their hockey skills while having fun. The camp is aimed at 7-14 year olds and includes a tournament at the end, to put their new skills into practice.
Hockey Heroes is a summer hockey club for children run by England Hockey. The club is for children ages 5 to 8 and focuses on teaching beginners the basics of hockey. The 8-week programme aims to help children not only with hockey skills but also character development. This is evident in the scheme’s core values, which include respect, resilience, and teamwork. Hockey Heroes also offers various activities, from fun games and drills to competitive tournaments. When kids sign up for a course, they receive two plastic hockey sticks and a ball which they can keep, so they can play on after it finishes.
Beeston Hockey Club in Nottingham is another great summer hockey club for children in the UK. The club offers a full range of hockey training for young people between the ages of 4 and 18 years, including matches, tournaments, and competitions. In the summer, they run coaching sessions for non-members aged 7 and above. The club is committed to teaching children the importance of fair play and teamwork, and its experienced coaches are dedicated to helping each child reach their potential.
Guildford Hockey Club is one of the best summer hockey clubs for children in the UK, coached by double Olympian Dan Fox. They run sessions during the summer holidays and half-term, providing an excellent opportunity for children to stay active during the long break from school. Children aged 5-15 are welcome, from beginners to those with the potential to reach the England Hockey Player Pathway, and training takes place in small groups of similar ages and abilities. As well as being a great way to improve fitness and hockey skills, the club also offers a chance to make new friends and have lots of fun.
London Wayfarers Hockey Club is a hockey club which welcomes non-members to its summer camps. There are full day sessions open to children aged 5 upwards of all abilities, where they can take part in different activities in small groups. There are also performance camps for older children and teens who are more experienced, to hone their skills with the help of professional coaches and give them a head start when the hockey season begins again.
There are many great options for summer hockey clubs and camps for children in the UK. Parents should consider their child's age and location when choosing a club. Most clubs offer discounts for multiple weeks or sibling discounts, so be sure to ask about those when enrolling your child.
