Whether you are local to West Wittering in Chichester or just visiting, there are plenty of great days out to be had with the kids. The village and the surrounding area have an array of fun indoor and outdoor activities so you can get the most out of your day whatever the weather.
Whilst you’re in West Wittering, a trip to its sandy beach is a must. During the summer months, you can easily spend the day building sandcastles and walking along the shore. If you get peckish you can grab an ice cream from one of the beachside huts. For the more adventurous among you, there are several watersports activities available such as windsurfing and kitesurfing.
This beach is privately owned so you must book a parking space in advance, particularly in the summer months where the weekend spaces often fill up quickly.
A 25 minute drive from West Wittering, Staunton Farm is listed as one of Hampshire's top ten attractions. Packed full of activities, there is something for everyone here. There is a variety of animals to meet, from llamas to reptiles and all of the farm favourites in between. Staggered throughout the day are a number of animal encounter sessions where the kids will be able to get up close to some of their favourite animals. The farm also boasts of a maze, indoor soft play, and a walled garden full of a beautiful collection of local and exotic flowers.
Should you find yourself in West Wittering on a rainy day, take a short drive towards Chichester and visit Little Street. Little Street is a role play centre where your childrens’ imaginations can run wild. Spread out amongst several themed rooms, your children will be able to step into the role of a hairdresser, a farmer, a builder, a beautician, and many more. Each room is filled with costumes and props to create an immersive, educational experience. With play sessions permitted for 85 minutes, Little Street offers adults a free hot drink with every entry so you can sit back and relax as the kids tire themselves out.
For the thrill-seekers amongst you, hop over the water to Hayling Island and spend the day at Funland Amusement park. The park caters to all ages with rides ranging from rollercoasters to Helter Skelters. For younger children, there is a soft play centre and a sea train that runs along the beach.
This historical site is the largest roman house in Britain and is a must-visit if you’re in the area. Just a 15 minute drive from West Wittering, it is the perfect place for your children to relive a huge part of British history. Activities include pottery making and baking roman bread. During the school holidays, the trust puts on events that allow children to experience life as Roman soldiers and much more.
