Travelling with a young family brings its own challenges and the last thing parents should have to worry about is the warmth of the welcome their family will receive when they arrive at their hotel or the level of facilities on offer for the kids. We have listed five of the most child-friendly hotels in Surrey below.
It can be expensive travelling with children and some of the budget hotel chains can be hard to beat in terms of value for money. The Travelodge at Gatwick Airport is the perfect stopover before or between flights, with clean and spacious family rooms that avoid the claustrophobic feeling that is possible in some smaller hotels. This hotel has recently undergone extensive modernisation and is one that is perfect for families to stop over, perhaps on their way to more exotic climes.
A hotel that goes the extra mile is always appreciated and the Runnymede on Thames has many returning guests because of how well they treat the families who visit. There are indoor and outdoor heated pools for the children to enjoy as well as nearby attractions like Legoland, which is under 7 miles away. There are also boat trips along the River Thames which is near the hotel. All in all, an excellent experience for all of the family.
This hotel isn’t the cheapest on the list but what makes it stand out is the fact that it is sited within Chessington World of Adventure, a safari park and zoo. They even have a room here that is themed after the popular Gruffalo books by Julia Donaldson. Staying over at this hotel before or after a full day spent in the safari park, zoo and sea life centre would be a wonderful experience for the whole family.
A very pleasant way to spend some time with the family, Wotton House has a swimming pool and spa facilities and is set in beautiful gardens. The history of the estate is also a fascinating one and stories abound of the eccentricities of the previous owners through the years. There were apparently kangaroos living in the grounds once upon a time! Wotton House offers beautiful and spacious rooms, which lend themselves to relaxation and the walks nearby offer the chance to visit picturesque villages featured in Hollywood films.
At the upper end of the price scale we have Great Fosters which has been a stately home since the 16th century. Despite the ostentatious pricing, or perhaps because of it, they are very accommodating to families, with an age-specific gift being provided for every child prior to their visit. Great Fosters is set in fifty acres of landscaped gardens with hedge mazes, a fountain and a moat, as well as a heated outdoor pool which is open from April to September. It is also a dog friendly hotel, so the whole family can come.
