As the summer holidays approach, parents across the UK are scrambling to figure out how to keep their kids entertained for six long weeks. If you're struggling to come up with ideas for a family holiday, don't worry - we've got you covered.
There's no need to spend a fortune on flights when there are so many amazing places to explore right here in the UK. The extensive coastline is full of beautiful beaches to explore, with activities like surfing, swimming and building sandcastles, plus resorts like Blackpool and Brighton with their famous piers and amusement parks.
We are lucky to have some top quality national parks - try a canal holiday on the Norfolk Broads, hiking and admiring the lakes in the Lake District, or seeing wild ponies at Dartmoor, Exmoor or the New Forest.
The UK has plenty of opportunities for city breaks too - with a wealth of history and culture in cities like Edinburgh, York and London.
There’s a range of accommodation options - you could rent a cottage, hire a caravan or stay in a tent. Whatever you go for, be sure to pack for the varied British weather and plan some rainy day activities, just in case.
If you're looking for something more adventurous, why not take your kids on a hike through the stunning scenery of Switzerland, Slovenia, or Austria? Plenty of companies offer organised walking and camping holidays for families, so you don't need to worry about planning everything yourself. Make sure everyone has the right footwear and clothing to enjoy a comfortable and safe trip, and take sunscreen and insect repellent - the last thing you want is your holiday to be ruined by sunburn or bites.
Located off the west coast of Africa, the Canary Islands are the perfect place to go if you're looking for a more relaxed holiday. The year-round warm weather and gorgeous beaches make them a popular choice for families with young children. There’s lots of cheap flights and accommodation options, so it’s surprisingly affordable. Kids will love building sandcastles, swimming in the sea, and exploring the local towns and villages. Meanwhile, you'll appreciate being able to relax in the sun with a good book while they burn off some energy.
If you’ve got a bigger budget, the USA is the perfect destination for families who want action-packed holidays packed with fun activities. From theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios to beautiful beaches in Hawaii and Florida and awesome natural wonders like Yellowstone National Park, there's something for everyone. You could also take in some culture, eating hot dogs at a baseball match, or admiring the view of New York from the top of the Empire State Building. Be prepared for a long flight, and don't forget your travel adaptor!
No matter what kind of holiday you're looking for, we hope this list has given you some inspiration. Remember, the most important thing is having fun with your family - whatever that looks like for you.
