Exams and tests are nearly over, the British weather is hotting up (we hope!), and the long school Summer Holiday is nearly upon us.
‘Hurray!’ shout the nation’s parents, disguising a quiet groan as they wonder how on earth they will entertain the children for six l-o-n-g weeks!
Well, how about a spot of acting? There are lots of kids’ acting schools in the UK, and many of them offer acting summer camps for children. We’ve found a few that we’ve listed below.
Give them a try! You never know; you might have a budding A-lister among you!
The Stagecoach network of performing arts schools doesn’t just offer regular term-time classes for regular students. They also provide their acting and teaching expertise to students attending Stagecoach Holiday Drama Clubs and Workshops.
Available to all children aged from 4-18 years, your child can learn to act, sing and dance with the professional Stagecoach teachers before putting on a final show for friends and family. Stagecoach promises your children will have fun, make friends, learn new skills and gain confidence during their time with them.
No previous experience is required.
The Filmmaking and Screen Acting Summer Camp is a one or two-week residential course for film-loving 12-17 year-olds. Based in the magnificent Culford School in Suffolk, the setting is guaranteed to inspire budding actors and filmmakers alike. Students follow a busy schedule, learning all aspects of acting and filmmaking daily. After dinner, there is plenty of time to make friends, relax and enjoy the fantastic facilities of Culford School.
YFA is probably one of the pricier acting summer camps, but reviews suggest it’s worth it!
Based mainly in the West End in London, in the musical theatre hub, Theatre Tribe specialises in 5-day holiday camps for children aged 8-18. Hosted by professionals with a working background in the West End and National Touring Theatre, your children will spend four days immersed in acting, singing, and dancing activities and work towards a final performance on day five of their workshop.
Discounts are available on booking for more than one child, and the company offers payment plans to spread the cost.
Already an established theatre school during term time, GTS has also been running popular Summer Youth Projects for 5-16-year-olds since 2008. The week-long courses are packed with activities, the ultimate aim being to perform a complete staged musical for an invited audience at the end of the final day. All teachers are highly qualified and experienced, supported by trained assistants and supervisors.
Theatre Workout has extended its award-winning West End workshops into week-long Summer Schools throughout August. Different class options target children aged between 5-16 years and offer a comprehensive range of performance skills encompassing acting, singing, and dancing. An invited audience can see the accumulated learning as a final staged performance at the end of the week.
