Street Dance is a rich and vibrant genre of dance that is full of attitude! Dancers will have the best time learning a variety of movement styles under the street dance umbrella, such as hip-hop, body locking, popping and breaking, all whilst developing their confidence and core strength. Dancers will unleash their character and creativity as they execute these slick and funky urban movements to popular music. Dancers learn about the techniques, foundation steps, routines and how to freestyle within the different styles within Street Dance as well the history behind each story, the music attached to those styles, gaining confidence and a healthy attitude towards physical exercise through dance. This class is for boys aged 6-11.

Boys Street Dance

These classes follow the award-winning Melody Bear First and Foundation syllabi. Children’s confidence, physicality and self-expression soar as we use unique props, dance the stories of classic fairy tales, carry out creative dance exercises and learn choreographed Ballet routines in exciting, jam-packed lessons.

Each week, children receive a sticker of a movement or theme they have worked on in class and these are collected to earn termly medals rewarding their in-class progress.

Reception & Year 1 Ballet with Melody Bear

In our Cheer Dance classes, dancers learn high energy dance routines and develop their dance technique to the hottest pop hits (old and new), all whilst holding pom poms!

Pom Dance is a style of dance that is focused on fast-paced, polished arm movements, formations, jumps and skills. Pom Dance incorporates movements from other dance styles such as jazz and hip hop and also borrows certain moves and stunts seen in cheerleading.

This fun, funky and unique dance style is sure to get your young dancer fired up!

We have Cheer Dance classes available for children from the age of 4-8.

Cheer Dance (Pop 'N' Pom)

Lyrical and Contemporary dance provide an incredible avenue for self-expression and storytelling. These dance styles combine the grace and technique of Ballet, Jazz and Modern with the freedom of contemporary movement.

Classes teach and inspire dancers to move expressively to the mood and lyrics of music. This emotive dance style is built around graceful movements and dynamic choreography, but is less strict and less formal than Ballet (dancer’s move more freely and naturally than in Ballet).

Dancers will learn floorwork as well as kicks, turns, leaps and lifts, all of which they will perform in exciting dance routines. They will also focus on improving their sense of rhythm and musicality as well as their performance skills, posture and physicality

We recommend that kids and teens who are serious about Lyrical x Contemporary take further dance styles at the Academy to accelerate their dance progression.

Lyrical x Contemporary Dance

Girls Street Dance

Teens Street Dance

Acro Antics is our very own dance course, lovingly created here at Chloe May’s Dance Academy. Fun and energetic, these classes suit children who are full of beans as they will learn to dance on their hands as well as their feet! Acrobatic Dance or ‘Acro Dance’ for short, is a unique and exciting dance style that combines dance with gymnastic and acrobatic movements. From cartwheels and forward rolls, to gallops and sidesteps, our pre-school classes teach Acro Dance through the use of creative and engaging exercises, props and themes. Each week children receive a sticker of a movement they have practised in class and these are collected to earn termly medals, rewarding their in-class progress. Our cute and cuddly mascot Acorn the Ant joins children in their classes to lend a helping hand.

Acro Antics (Reception & Year 1 Acro Dance)

We teach our dancers in this class the Acrobatic Arts syllabi which is considered to be one of the safest and most effective syllabi for teaching Acro skills progressively up to advanced pre-professional levels. Children learn more advanced tumbling and limbering movements such as front and back walk overs, handsprings, pop/hurdle cartwheels and round-offs which are then seamlessly integrated into dance routines. The mastering of advanced Acro skills requires a high level of flexibility and strength – children will therefore need to develop the self-discipline and eagerness to practise at home. This class is fun, exhilarating and exciting!

School Years 2-5 Acro Dance (ages 6-10 years)

From School Year 2, children have the opportunity to take official IDTA examinations in Ballet. In our exam-level classes, children progressively develop more advanced technique, focus on perfecting elegance through movement and learn to deliver emotive performances. Our Ballet classes are graceful, engaging and help children come out of their shell.

School Years 3-5 Ballet IDTA (ages 7-10 years)

A magical Ballet and Creative Dance journey for ages walking to 2.5 that sees tiny ones travel to Nursery Rhyme Land each week, dancing to simple movement exercises with imagination, props and music - each dance class an engaging and exciting one! Using the award-winning Melody Movement syllabus framework, Little Bear Feet is the first step in a Pre-Schooler's dance journey with us. Upon completion of Little Bear Feet, children move up into more advanced Melody Movers Ballet classes. Children earn weekly stickers towards termly medals which reward in-class progress! Melody Movers 1 (Pre-School Ballet)

Using the award-winning Melody Movement syllabus framework, Melody Movers is the next step up from our Little Bear Feet & Melody Movers 1 classes. Children earn weekly stickers towards termly medals which reward in-class progress! This is an independent class for older Pre-Schoolers, but parents may sit and watch. Chloe May's Dance Academy is a traditional dance school with a modern twist! We have a combined number of 300 dancers (toddlers, kids, teens & adults) between Kidderminster and Bromsgrove and have been running for almost 6 years. We are an encouraging, supportive and welcoming dance school that strives to help children become the best dancers they can be. We are not elitist in our approach and want every child to have access to a fulfilling dance education - whether they just want to dance for fun or decide to dance for progression and achievement with dreams of a career in the performance arts industry.
