Equipment Needed For Ice Skating For Kids

23 November 2022

Ice skating is a great activity for kids of all ages. Not only is it a lot of fun, but it's also a great way to stay active during the winter. If you're thinking about letting your child try ice skating, there are a few things you'll need to get first. In this article, we'll go over five of the most important pieces of equipment needed for ice skating.

Skates

The first piece of equipment your child will need for ice skating is a good pair of skates. Most ice rinks will allow you to hire skates, however you may wish to purchase ones for your child if they are skating regularly. Skates allow your child to move across the surface of the ice with relative ease. They are also what provides the stability needed to prevent falls and other accidents. When choosing skates for your child, pick a pair that fits well and provides good support. Choosing comfortable skates is also important, as your child will be wearing them for extended periods. A good pair of skates will give them the manoeuvrability they need to learn how to skate without being too much of a hindrance.

A Helmet

The second piece of equipment your child will need for ice skating is a helmet. This is arguably the most important piece of safety gear that your child can have when skating. A fall on the ice can be very dangerous, and a helmet will help protect your child's head in the event of a fall. Hockey helmets are not recommended for general skating as they do not provide adequate protection for falls on the ice. Rather, we recommend getting your child a properly fitting bicycle helmet that meets all safety standards.

Knee Pads

The knees are some of the most vulnerable parts of the body when skating. A fall onto the knees can cause serious bruising and even fractures. That's why it's important to ensure that your child is wearing knee pads when skating. Knee pads will help cushion the blow if your child falls and can also help prevent more serious injuries.

Elbow Pads

Elbow pads are important for two reasons. First, they protect your child's elbows in case they fall. Second, they help keep your child's arms warm while skating. When choosing elbow pads for your child, ensure to get ones that fit snugly but aren't too tight. You don't want the pads to be so loose that they fall off easily, but you also don't want them to be so tight that they're uncomfortable.

Gloves

Like elbow pads, gloves are important for both protecting your child's hands and keeping them warm. When choosing gloves for your child, ensure to get ones that fit snugly but aren't too tight. You don't want the gloves to be so loose that they fall off easily, but you also don't want them to be so tight that they're uncomfortable.

That's everything you'll need to start ice skating for your child. Ice skating is a great activity for kids of all ages, and it's something that the whole family can enjoy together. Just make sure you have all the proper equipment before heading out onto the ice.
