But with all the prestigious theatres around and the many shows on offer, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. There are just too many options available! Not to worry, let’s go over the top 5 classic family theatre shows that are a must-see for anyone - no matter your age.

Lion King

This one might ring a bell! The Lion King is one of the longest-running, best-selling family theatre shows in London. Hosted by the prestigious Lyceum Theatre on Wellington Street, this show is a must-see for any Lion King fan - regardless of whether you’ve seen the movie or not. With this being one of the most popular shows throughout the year, demand is always sky-high. Make sure to book a ticket ahead of time online to secure your seats. The show runs for 2 hours and 30 minutes and is recommended for those 6 years old and above, but children as young as 3 may attend if it is deemed suitable for them by a guardian. Reviewers deem the Lion King as a sensational watch that will make you laugh, cry, and feel a million emotions at once.

Mamma Mia!

This classic play by Judy Craymer is a well-celebrated show around the world. Hosted by the Novello Theatre in Aldwych, London - Mamma Mia has some classic songs you’re sure to recognise. We’re talking about ABBA classics like ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Waterloo’, and the infamous ‘Dancing Queen’. Matilda

Roald Dahl’s Matilda has always been a family favourite, with a story that encourages boldness and staying true to one's self. Wicked

Without a doubt, this show hosted by the Apollo Victoria Theatre is one of the most famous musicals in the world. Displays of world-class theatrical magic are coupled with a magical soundtrack. We’re sure of one thing - your kids won’t be bored! This captivating prequel to the Wizard of Oz is not available for children ages 2 and below, but is ideal for kids aged 3 and above. 

Mary Poppins

An icon of our time, Mary Poppins is known to everyone - no matter how old or young you might be. The Mary Poppins musical has been around for decades and is still very popular. With popular songs like ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’ and ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’, the whole family can sing along with the cast and have a good old time! The show runs for 2 hours and 50 minutes, and is suited to children ages 5 and above.
