While it is a very cosmopolitan city, you'll be pleased to find that Brighton is also very family-friendly. There are several indoor and outdoor attractions to explore with the children. With its proximity and great rail connections to London, Brighton is an ideal choice for a day out or short break, for those in the capital and beyond.

The Beach

Brighton beach is a clean pebble beach with a stunning view. Your children will love searching through the pebbles to find pretty seashells and other hidden treasures. The beach is 4 miles long and makes for a lovely walk if you visit outside of the peak seasons. During the peak summer months, the beach will be very busy as it is one of the most famous beaches in the UK.

Brighton Palace Pier

It is hard to think about Brighton and not picture Brighton Pier, especially lit up at night, it is an iconic image. At the end of the pier, there is a fairground with rides designed for all age groups. The children will be entertained easily for a couple of hours enjoying the rides, all of which can be accessed by buying a wristband. Once you get hungry you can either grab a quick bite from one of the many refreshment stalls or relax at one of the three bars located there.

Volk’s Electric Railway

If the kids don’t feel like walking then take a ride on the world’s oldest electric railway. The train travels 1 mile along the seafront and there are three stops you can get on and off from. Please note this service is closed during the Autumn and Winter months.

Palace Play

If it starts raining while you're on the pier, take the kids into Palace Play for a couple of hours. Palace play is a four storey indoor soft play area. There is an onsite cafe for parents to recharge whilst the kids are occupied and a separate toddler-friendly play area.

Brighton Sea Life Centre

Opened in 1872 Brighton Sea Life Centre is the oldest sea life centre in the world. The sea life centre is home to over 5000 fish and sea creatures including sea turtles, which you can experience up close through designated feeding times. Their huge focus on conservation means that each staff member is extremely knowledgeable and your children will learn a lot from listening to their daily talks.

i360

The British Airways i360 tower is a viewing platform on the beach. Unlike the pier that offers views of the shoreline, the tower rises 450ft into the air and gives you 360-degree views of Brighton. There is a bar on the deck so you can enjoy refreshments while taking in the breathtaking views. If you visit in the winter months there are special events such as Breakfast with Santa and a winter solstice flight where you can watch the sunrise on the shortest day of the year.

Brighton Toy Museum

If your children love toy trains this is a must-visit whilst you are in Brighton. This small museum is packed to the brim with all manner of historical toys. It is located underneath Brighton train station, perfect if you are travelling to Brighton via train. You have to book specific time slots but there is plenty to do within your allotted time.

Upside Down House

One of Brighton's quirkiest attractions is the upside-down house. This art exhibition is only £5 to enter. As the name suggests it is a house built upside with rooms to match. Make a memory with the whole family by taking funny photos in the upside-down rooms or approach a staff member who will be more than happy to take them for you.

Paradox Place

Another unmissable exhibition is Paradox Place which is a house full of art installations and illusions. Each room houses a different optical illusion including rooms that will make you feel really small and others that will make you feel like a giant. Make sure to take full advantage of your time here and take lots of photos of the family having fun.

Jungle Rumble Mini Golf

Encourage your children’s competitive side on this 18 hole crazy golf course. It is located right on the beach and has a beach bar that sells delicious milkshakes afterwards. So you can take a seat and relax while you tally up the scores and find out who the winner is.
