Experience a spectacular new drone display at Scarborough Castle, specially commissioned for Scarborough Lights.

Join Thomasin Farrer and local schoolchildren on a magical journey around Scarborough, as the town approaches its 400th anniversary as the UK’s very first seaside resort. This dazzling performance also offers a unique opportunity to see the Scarborough Castle illuminations up close.

The show is produced by Flight Shows, one of the UK’s leading drone display companies, with text by Nick Lane from the Stephen Joseph Theatre, soundscape, design and recording by Ernie Acquah, and featuring the voices of Georgie Samuels and members of the Stephen Joseph Theatre’s Young Company.

Before the main event, enjoy fire, light, and live music performances, along with a tempting selection of food and drink stalls.

Drone Display At Scarborough Castle

This Christmas, start your celebrations with a premium Festive Afternoon Tea and share festive fayre with a selection of sandwiches, cakes and canapés served in our historic mansion house dining room at Wrest Park.

Add on an Afternoon Tea experience with your admission ticket for a festive day out. 

Options available for adults & children, with a selection of festive cakes, traditional finger sandwiches, canapés & treats. Gluten Free & Vegan options are available.

Your afternoon tea table time will be 1 hour 20 minutes, leaving you with plenty of time to enjoy our historic site.

Available from Saturday 22 November - Sunday 21 December 2025, Wednesday through to Sunday. Timeslots available at 12pm, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2pm.

Festive Afternoon Tea At Wrest Park

Double Vision brings together two paintings both known as The Guitar Player. One painting, a treasure from Kenwood’s Iveagh Bequest, is signed by the great Johannes Vermeer (1632-75). The origin of the other, on loan from the John G. Johnson Collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, USA, remains a mystery.

Philadelphia’s painting depicts the same young woman playing a guitar, but with a number of small differences. Thought to be by Vermeer by John G. Johnson who bought the picture and eventually gave it to the city of Philadelphia, the question of who painted it and when has been the subject of intense debate for the past 100 years.

This new display, marking the 350th anniversary of Vermeer’s death aged 43 in 1675, sees the paintings side by side for the first time in over 300 years.

Herd your family together for a baaa-rilliant Christmas trail at Wrest Park this festive season. Grab a trail map and track down twelve super-sized sculptures of Shaun the Sheep designed by different artists.

The trail runs from Wednesday-Sunday. On weekends until 23 December, you can also get hands-on with Christmas crafts and toast marshmallows around the fire once ewe’ve found the flock.

Join us for our annual Christmas Wreath Workshop! Using all natural materials from Marble Hill’s historic parkland and gardens, our expert gardeners will teach you how to make your very own Christmas wreath.

Get into the Christmas spirit and get creative with some beautiful seasonal foliage. This experience is topped off with a complementary festive drink and sweet treat from our café.

Please bring your own secateurs and gardening gloves, if you have them.

Please note, this event is not suitable for children.

Wreath Making Workshop At Marble Hill

Join Father Christmas at Bolsover Castle this winter for a magical way to start the festive season.

Father Christmas is taking time out of his busy festive schedule to tell some of his favourite seasonal stories around the Christmas tree. After the group storytelling session, you and your children will meet the man himself, with the chance to take photographs and make memories to treasure. Father Christmas will also give every child a traditional present to unwrap.

To make sure there’s room for everyone, only one adult is allowed to accompany each child. Father Christmas needs to start the sessions on time, so please arrive at least 15 minutes before your slot.

Sessions will take place at 10:20, 11:00, 11:40, 12:20, 13:40, 14:20, 15:00.

Neverland At Kenwood

Join us in the magnificent surroundings of the Great Hall at Audley End House and Gardens for a fabulously festive day of wreath making.

You will be guided through the step by step process by our Head Gardener Louise Ellis and will create a beautiful wreath adorned with festive fruits and spices surrounded by greenery from the estate to take home.

A delicious lunch will be served in the Housekeepers Room and hot drinks will be available throughout the day. If you have dietary requirements please let us know via email: Elizabeth.clarke@english-heritage.org.uk
