Edinburgh Buggy Walks

Buggy Walks is a partnership established in 2016 by 3 keen ramblers in the Edinburgh area. We were originally tasked by Edinburgh City Council to promote and lead walks for new parents using the city’s QuietRoutes. Currently, we are sponsored by the National Lottery in our aims to support new parents.

All our walks are FREE and start in an easily accessible place and are run on weekdays mornings and afternoons. We finish up back at a buggy/ breastfeeding friendly cafe with changing facilities for time to chat for those who can stay on a bit.

I joined the buggy walks when my little one was about 3 months old. Immediately I made mummy friends and this helped me to settle into my maternity leave and new life as a mum. Was lovely each week bouncing ideas off each other, comparing sleeps and feeds and having a good catchup about non baby things. I love how laid back the group is. I’m the leader and we have such a lovely mix of parents that come along each week. There is no commitment, no pressure, just a bit of a wander and some coffee and cake. From this activity I found out about loads of other things to do. Turning up to a buggy walk was the best move I made!

Attending the buggy walk is a highlight of my week! The group is very relaxed which helped me gain confidence to be out and about with my little one. There is never only one baby crying or needing a nappy change or feeding and the group just goes with the flow and supports each other. The Botanics is a lovely place to get some fresh air and excercise. The other parents there are all very welcoming and friendly and it is nice to share stories and advice for the little ones but also some adult conversation too!

Attending my local buggy walk is one of the best things I've done with my maternity leave. I discovered parts of Edinburgh I didn't know were there. I like the relaxed atmosphere and that you can just attend when you want to - it's no problem if you can't make it one week which sometimes happens at a moments notice with a baby! It's also been a great way to reintroduce light exercise post pregnancy. Most of all, I've met some really lovely people in my local area and found everyone was really supportive and friendly to this new mum which was exactly what I needed!
